I have always had some kind of a fascination for the vast and endless deserts. There is something so mystical about them. Its kind of like the curiosity for the unknown, you would never know what lurks across the endlessness of a desert. So I jumped at the prospect of getting to witness a desert with my own eyes for the very first time, when we finally planned a weekend trip to Jaisalmer in Rajasthan. Rajasthan is my favourite vacation spot. I love the culture, the music, the costumes, the food and of course the people! I have visited Udaipur, a city in Rajasthan, in the recent past and some of you might have read about it in Udaipur Diaries. However, Jaisalmer was different, a lot different from any other places in Rajasthan. Pankaj loves driving and we chose to drive up to Jaisalmer which is almost 550 km from Ahmedabad. The first day in Jaisalmer was spent amidst the Thar desert taking camel rides, listening to local folk music and treating ourselves with local delicacies. Our trip was quite off-beat in so many ways. Apart from doing the rounds of the quintessential tourist spots we also headed towards the road less taken by visiting Kuldhara, a haunted village near Jaisalmer. More about our trip coming soon in a series of travel posts by Pankaj.
Fo now I am taking you through what I wore in Jaisalmer. The Thar desert was hot during the day and got quite chilly at night. I picked a light-weight yellow blouse for the day as I had the choice of layering on warmer clothes after sunset. A regular skinny jeans and boots were perfect accompaniments to the blouse as I knew we’d be spending major part of the day walking on the sand and exploring the desert. I kept wearing my boots for a long time during our desert safari until that point when I got way too excited and decided to trot around desert bare foot! In a very strange way a relaxing vacation brings out the little kid inside you!
It was a vacation extremely well-spent with lot of fun, adventure, sight-seeing and of course, visiting a haunted village!! 🙂 Don’t forget to wait around until Pankaj starts publishing his travel posts loads of interesting details!
