Blogging in Isolation? Not a Good Idea!

Although the Fashion & Lifestyle blog community is growing bigger and better with every passing day, yet there are many bloggers who still work in isolation.

If you are one of them, don’t feel bad as yet! There are many like you and believe me, until recently I was one of them too. To start a fashion or a lifestyle blog, all you need is a computer and an internet connection and you can start typing away. It seems like the easiest thing to do, though many of us know by now that it is not. Thus, at the initial stage of blogging, many bloggers don’t even feel the need to get out and network for their blogs. They feel that all the collaborations and money (in case that is one of the reasons you blog) will just flow into their comfortable bed room where they are working all day long in PJs.

In my post How to Work from Home and Stay Motivated?, I stressed on the importance of getting out of the house and working from some place else. of course, that post wasn’t just for the bloggers but for any individual making a living out of their bedroom or living room or any room of their house for that matter! Having said that, it’s of equal importance for fashion and lifestyle bloggers to follow some of the tips from that post and start networking as early in their blogging careers as possible. All the famous bloggers have done it and so should you at some point at least.

In this post I am going to give you a few simple and easy tips to start networking for your blog.

But before that let me start by addressing the reason why some bloggers do not network. One reason I know for sure is lack of awareness. Some bloggers simply don’t have any idea as to why they should network unless that is a network of friendship. Second of course is the shyness and discomfort to go out and contact a stranger. Third (although rare with the blogging community) is ego; you know, ‘why should I’ kind of ego! If it’s the first reason why you aren’t networking yet, this post will answer all your questions. If it’s the second reason, read the post and may be gather enough courage to follow the steps. For the bloggers of the third category, please consult a therapist! 🙂

So, I assume you have a fashion or a lifestyle blog and after reading my post until now you think networking is important and you want to get started. The first concern might be that you don’t know where are those people that you should be networking with!  For bloggers, the best way to start networking would be with fellow bloggers. Since photography is an integral part of any fashion & lifestyle blog, you can get in touch with photographer too. All bloggers are in social media and pretty much everyone has an Instagram account. It’s best to start looking for networking in social media platforms that you use.

#Start a social media group to find like minded fellow bloggers

I started a Facebook group and added a few bloggers I knew. Very soon the group gained popularity and more people  started sending requests to join in. By doing so you can definitely come across a few bloggers you get along with and that can lead to some cool future collaborations.

#Twitter and Instagram are great platforms to find bloggers near you

Use your city hashtags to locate some. In fact one of my blogger friends spotted me on Instagram first and then she introduced me to quite a few bloggers from my city with similar niche. We are a small community now and we often meet and plan interesting projects together.

#Collaborate for fun, not always for money!

Blogger collaborations initially may not bring any monetary gain but they are a great way to break the ice and get out of your comfort zone (more so if you are a shy kind of a person). I and my blogger buddies first met over coffee + a photo shoot and planned our next venture. We are still working on it and it is a great way to meet like minded people with similar passion for work.

#Do a photo shoot collaboration with a local photographer

My husband Pankaj takes all my blog photographs and I am lucky that ways. But I know many fashion bloggers who are always on the look out for a photographer. If you are one of them, you can start networking with local photographer from your city and request a collaboration in exchange for a link to the photographer’s site and social media. Some photographers may charge an hourly rate but there are many new but good ones who would love to help you out for free.

#Work with your fellow bloggers on a theme shoot

Like how I did a collaboration project with my blogger buddies. Of course you can come up with better ideas as well! 🙂

#Go out with your blogger buddies on a weekend trip

Come back and do a post about it tagging each other and sharing the traffic. I haven’t done something like this as yet but it is in my to-do list for sure!

#Swap wardrobes with your blogger friends

None of use fashion & lifestyle bloggers are super rich, unless of course you are! Buying clothes and accessories for look posts is often a pain. Teaming up with fellow bloggers for a wardrobe swapping can help you get rid of your old wardrobe and get new and interesting ones, thereby helping you  create interesting outfit combinations for your shoots. Everyone with a Fashion & lifestyle blog has a cool wardrobe and you can trust me on that!

#Post some fun Insta-stories with your new blogger friends

Oh, I do it all the time. Great way to let your followers know about your fun, behind-the-camera life and your new friends. Your blogger friends will do the same for you in return and some of their followers might like your profile and follow you. Another great way to share traffic and followers.

That pretty much sums up my list of few initial steps towards networking for someone with a fashion & Lifestyle Blog. I have been getting into networking only recently because I have been changing cities quite frequently and have never really settled down in one place. But once I started networking and meeting people, I realised how incredible it can be.

The prime reason of sharing these tips and stress on the importance of networking is to help upcoming fashion & lifestyle bloggers.

Therefore I sincerely hope you found my post helpful. if you have any questions, any other tips that are not listed here, please do share and let’s help each other grow!

Have a great day!

I really appreciate this post because it helps to know these tools which I’ve asked myself for so long. I’ve stopped blogging because I couldn’t find a good photographer to help me bring my blog to the next level. I hope I’ll be able to find a good photographer one day and resume blogging. Thanks

Great tips! I need to get out and start collaborating with bloggers in the same niche! I have a couple of other blogs and I know it is difficult to maintain blogs of different niches but with a good networking strategy, I know it will work wonders. Thanks for the advice.

Great thoughts. For me, its best too to collaborate for fun, the more fun and love you put on things that we do, the more we enjoy it – the longer we do it.

This is such a fab post and I definitely fall into this category! I am a lone blogger at the moment and although I sometimes collaborate with brands, I have yet to really find my tribe!

Thank you for the great tips! I’m just getting started fashion and lifestyle blogging (I blogged about the war in Syria for the last 5 years!). I’m enjoying blogging about pleasant topics, but the audience doesn’t really have much cross-over. I’ve hardly done any networking and as I’m finding blogs like yours, I’m wondering why. It’s so great to read other people’s blogs!
