I had recently been on a vacation to visit my parents in Kolkata. Kolkata, like most parts of India, is very hot a city with high humidity. I had packed very thoughtfully but once I reached my destination I could not wear some of my favorite clothes as the temperature was way too high. Wearing make up was beyond reality! My eye make up bled like hell and the foundation started melting the moment I put it on my face. Not fun!! But did I enjoy my holidays? Of course I did!! Its just that if I had done my packing a little more sensibly it would have been so much more enjoyable.
I realised that a lot of my readers would probably be planning a vacation during this summer and I decided to create this quick guide to help you holiday in style!
If you are travelling to a tropical country, keeping in mind this packing list will go a long way in helping you pack well and stay fashionable all through high heat and humidity 🙂
Days are hot and humid in any tropical place during summer. So loose silhouettes and light weight fabrics are very comfortable to wear as well as to pack. Shorts with cute tops and tees are chic as well cosy at the same time. If you want to add a bit of feminine touch, choose from thousands of pretty short summer dresses and maxi dresses in vibrant prints. Do add in loads of colors as no summer holiday is complete without bright and happy hues. Oh, and yes, do not forget to pack in some itsy bitsy bikinis if there is a beach at your holiday destination.
The nights do get relatively cooler in most of the places. A LBD and a cocktail dress pretty much deals with the party emergencies. I would also recommend a pair of palazzo trousers and a pair of shiny leggings to team with various tops for the after dark looks.
A wide brimmed hat and large sunglasses are a must have if you are travelling to a tropical country in summer. They not only add to your looks but also protect the skin and the eyes from the harsh rays of sun. A scarf and brightly colored belts can lift a dull look instantly. Therefore, since it is not possible to pack your entire wardrobe to your holiday destination, packing some quirky accessories can make you stay fashion forward even with less clothes in stock!! 🙂 Also a roomy tote to take all your essentials along is a quite a crucial element to pack while travelling.
Open toed shoes are the best for summer in a tropical country. If you plan to walk around exploring the place, flats are definitely the right choice. However, the evenings can definitely allow a wider choice of fashion footwear from high heeled peep-toes to towering stilettos.
A miscellaneous list of beauty and skincare products like sunscreen creams with high SPF, bloating tissues and water proof make up should be present in your packing list too.
I hope you find my packing list useful. This is of course based on my personal experiences and have worked wonderfully well for me. Feel free to leave a comment with your expert tips too 🙂
So where are you heading to this summer?
