Hotel Review : Saramsa Resort, Gangtok

In the first part of my article on our Sikkim Trip I had mentioned about how I get all charged up when an opportunity comes my way to be in the midst of the mountains. After marrying Sarmistha I have actually managed to pass on this trait to her as well even though she was not much of mountain person earlier. To put it indelicately, she must be really lucky to have met me in life!  Today I will be focusing on our first hotel partner during our trip to Sikkim and at the very outset I must mention that  it has been one of our best travel experiences ever.

When we go on a holiday, especially to a mountain resort town like Gangtok in Sikkim, what we really look for is a place that is far away from the humdrum of the busy city life and yet easily accessible, when it comes to all the modern amenities of life. This is exactly where the Saramsa Resort ticks all the boxes.

Saramsa resort is in a quaint location of Gangtok called Chota Singtam which is around 15 kilometres from the busy city centre.

As soon as I stepped out of the car and saw this resort surrounded by picturesque greenery, I fell in love with it.

The rolling hills, the fresh mountain air and the peace and quiet; it seemed just like our kind of place.

As we entered the resort, we received a very warm traditional welcome with Sikkimese stoles and it was truly humbling. Once inside the resort, I couldn’t resist my admiration for the interiors. It was a perfect blend of traditional decor with a classy and contemporary twist. It appeared as if the management was a connoisseur of art. As I looked around, the wall were adorned with beautiful paintings in decorative frames depicting the lifestyle and culture of Sikkim. After the check-in formalities and a short conversation with the owner himself, we were taken to our room, the Royal Suite.

The elegance of the interior decoration followed us there too. The Royal Suit consisted of a separate living cum dining area and a very spacious bed room. The lighting in the bedroom was dim creating a very relaxing and cosy ambience. While the room was beautiful, clean and absolutely to our liking, our bathroom definitely needs a special mention. It was pretty roomy  with finer bathroom fittings and an enormous eye catchy bath tub. It looked as if the management has thoughtfully installed it there so that guests, after an exhilarating sightseeing, could unwind in it with a glass of wine or champagne. I still regret not getting a chance to use it due to our busy morning schedules though!

The resort has 18 Deluxe, Super Deluxe rooms and Royal Suites. We were informed that Saramsa Resort attracts lots of Indian as well as  foreign clients during the peak tourist season in Gangtok and I was not surprised at all. After all the resort has that character which is quite rare in most business establishments in busy tourist places of India, the personal touch! We felt that personal touch in their service throughout our stay at the resort. All the staff were polite, welcoming and greeted us with a happy smile every time they saw us.

One of the biggest highlights of Saramsa Resort that I personally loved was their very spacious restaurant overlooking the beautiful green hills and the lovely blue sky. The ambience of the restaurant was totally romantic especially during the monsoon season (the time when we visited) and it is one of the most wonderful experience to mix food and conversation with the cool mountain breeze mildly touching your hair. If you ever happen to visit Gangtok and stay in the Saramsa Resort, make sure to have at least one meal during your stay in this restaurant instead of requesting room service! You are going to love it as much as we did!

To sum up my experience in the Saramsa Resort Gangtok briefly; it’s quaint, peaceful, beautiful, warm and friendly.

For those looking for peace and quiet in the midst of nature this is truly the place to book your next stay if you are heading to Gangtok. For those looking for value for money, the experience will be simply worthwhile. Though we made our own arrangements for sight seeing and city tours, Saramsa Resort does arrange a wide range of trekking and sight seeing trips for their guests upon request.
