Can I wear this dress? Is it ‘in’? I am sure many of us have struggled with such thoughts at least at some point in everyday life. And that brings up to the most important question of the day that I am going to address today. Is it important to buy all the new fashion trends of the season?
Being a part of the fashion industry, it is an integral part of my job to stay updated on the new fashion trends every season and I always make it a point to do so. But that does not necessarily mean that I afford to buy every single fashion trend that is out in the market. At the end of the day I am a ‘real’ person with a ‘real’ budget and after paying my bills and running a house I am seldom left with a large chunk of money to go trend shopping every month! I love fashion and I do secretly wish I could update my wardrobe every week! But the reality, of course, is different. So, I put some thoughts in finding a solution to this so called problem of looking fashionable without having to splurge every season.
I started working more on my personal style and started planning my outfits in a way that is practical and at the same time fashionable! To be honest, fashion blogging helped me a lot in doing so.
Identifying personal style is an ongoing process and it is about wearing outfits that are unique to one’s personality and feeling confident about it. The key fashion pieces of the season are anyways going to be bought by a lot of people and unless one comes up with a distinctive way of styling it, there is this trap of ending up looking like everyone else. That is where having a strong personal style comes into play that any fashion lover should strive to work upon.
Yves Saint Laurent aptly put it “Fashion Fade, Style is Eternal”
A few months back I had posted an article about my favorite fall looks and Velvet slip dress was a part of that list. I had been in love with the trend from the very beginning but I always kept postponing the idea of buying one for myself until Zaful sent me this velvet slip dress as a part of our collaboration. Basically if it was not because of this collaboration, I would probably not have worn a velvet slip dress at all!
What is my point? My point is that just because I didn’t wear a slip dress until now didn’t make me any less fashionable.
My point is that it’s not necessary to own every single piece from the new fashion trends, unless you want to! It’s fun to experiment with fashion, buy what we absolutely love and create our own style choices. But it’s definitely not fun to have fashion trends dictate your choices!
However, that is entirely my personal thought on the topic. If you have a different opinion on shopping for the latest fashion trends of the season, do share it in the comment section below. And if you would go ahead and shop for a few pieces anyways, please scroll down for my outfit details and links to similar items to shop from!

February 20, 2017Thanks for stepping by at my blog the other day 🙂 I am glad, so I could find this interesting article of yours. I do agree with you: you should rather work on a distinctive style than following all the trends “on time” and buying all the “must haves” at all times. I like the idea of picking the trends you like over years and creating something unique 🙂
I always loved wearing high-waisted jeans and pants, when everybody else wore lower ones. People looked weirdly at me for wearing them back then and now I am happy I can find a greater variety 😛

March 8, 2017Totally agree with you! I think it’s more fun to experiment with mixing and matching than just copying the latest trends and wearing them exactly the way everyone else is wearing. Thanks for dropping by. Have a great day! 🙂

November 27, 2017I quite agree that finding your own groove and whats works for you is the best way to go. You also have to be comfortable and happy in how you style yourself and not just following the herd, so to speak.

November 27, 2017Exactly trends fade and style is eternal and if you have a distinctive sense of style then you should totally own it no matter what a stuffy magazine dictates that you should be wearing. Style is personal and connected to our identity.

November 28, 2017I would say your choices are good and you look gorgeous. I don’t think mix and max would be difficult for us as long as we wear ourselves, our identity and we’re comfortable – that’s all that matters to me too.
