by

So, here I am once again doing a monochrome look with a pop of color. I am wearing a striped shirt with a matching striped bag and happy to be out and about! Hello Everyone!

Life of a fashion blogger is not so easy, more so if you are in a country like India. My blog is still a start-up and I am yet to set up a lot of things. A studio in-house is in our ‘to-buy’ list. Without that we are always dependent on the natural light and our blog schedule gets severely effected when it rains. Plus, going out in the public to do photo shots is pretty difficult. If you are from India, you’d know what I mean. Today while I was doing this photo shoot I was stared at by a dozen of people. Some even stood around for a long time watching us, clearly with the intention of making us uncomfortable. Some left us weird remarks as they passed by. A group of ladies wondered aloud if I was a ‘guy’ or a ‘girl’ as apparently they couldn’t make out my gender!! I know I have to be thick skinned and trust me I am quite thick-skinned. 90% of my photo shoots are done outdoors and without a thick skin I couldn’t have managed to do it. But sometimes it gets to me. I don’t understand what’s the big deal if a girl poses for a photograph in public! Seriously!

I miss Ahmedabad more than ever now as I never had such experience ever. Neither did I had any issues in Bangalore, where I lived for a while. I hope with time,  people of  the great ‘Gateway to North-East’ will learn to grow up too! Till they do,  may be I will pick early morning hours when the roads are less crowded. But for now the best time to  do a photo shoot is when it’s not raining.

Hello my dear! It’s been a long time checking your blog. I myself too experienced what you’ve just written above, people staring at you, giving you the look when you are doing your poses publicly.. Its really awkward and uncomfortable but I guess… I already got used to it! haha. We have no choice, let’s just work it out! I love your top by the way, as a lover of monochrome.. I thought.. it suits you well! April of: The Promdi Chic Blog: https://beybiapril.wordpress.com/ IG: @aprilnunezzz

Ahh, I feel your pain with not being able to do photo shoots as often as you like or under your preferred conditions. I don’t mind being photographed in public, but most of the people I have *doing* my photographs DO. They feel very awkward and uncomfortable if they think they’re being watched and just…stop. And wait til there’s no one around. But I would like to shoot on busy streets with outdoor cafes etc…and there are always people there! So it is a challenge. Amazing in this day and age that people are still shocked in your country at the thought of a young woman being photographed in public – GASP! Keep up the nice work, I think your blog is lovely. Thank you for your kind words Bettye. I didn’t have any problem getting myself photographed in public and I am new to these kind of weird reactions. Ever since I moved into this new city,my blog has started suffering so much. It’s painful! But I am trying my best to find proper time and place to carry out my photo shoots with minimal disturbance.

One never thinks about the harassment a woman might endure when doing something as simple as having a photo taken in an outfit–and that for many, like you, it’s an act of bravery! I always love your locations and it never occurred to me that you might be putting up with such things just to take a lovely photo. I am sorry that this is how people behave in so many parts of the world–and I don’t exempt the US, either–and I respect you for sticking with your vision. Take good care of yourself, and be safe. Thank you for your spirit!

Thanks a million for your good wishes and support. I have started experiencing these amount of harassment only recently after moving into this new city. Trying my best to cope with the new ‘culture’ (!!) of the place and trying to find better time and place to do our blog photo shoots.
