I love the winter months and more so because I am from a tropical country where summers are quite harsh. However, as much as I love winter I quite dread the dryness that it brings along to the skin and hair. I have to work really hard to keep my skin hydrated and glowing during the winter season. In this post I am going to share some of the essential beauty products that I use to tackle winter dryness and flaky skin. There are also some very easy skin care tips for winter and I follow them religiously in the colder months.
It’s definitely a no-brainer that you need to keep you skin hydrated in winter to maintain the softness. Although I have a combination skin it dries up due to the cold and a generous amount of moisturizer several times a day really helps keeping it supple and glowing.

I love Neutrogena Oil-free moisturizer for combination skin and it takes care of the hydrating part without making my skin extra oily. I also use Aloe Soothing Day Cream from The Body Shop which is really great for sensitive skins like mine and is gentle enough for everyday use.
Beauty Tip : Apply moisturizer right after washing your face when the skin is still damp. The product gets absorbed faster and the skin stays soft for longer.
Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean you can go slow on your sun screen. In tropical countries like India, the winter sun is quire strong too and your skin needs as much of sun protection in winter as it needs in summer. Sunscreen has always been my best friend and it goes a long way in protecting your skin not just from damaging affects of the sun, but also from dust and pollution to a large extent.

I have been using Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-touch Sunscreen with SPF 55 for quite a while now and am so happy with the results that I haven’t switched to any other brands yet! This sunscreen was very much a part of my summer makeup must haves and I very much use it during winter as well, just that I mix it well with a moisturiser to avoid dryness.
Beauty Tip : Wear your sunscreen at least 30 minutes before stepping out in the sun. This helps the lotion/cream to start working from long before your skin actually faces the sun.
While your face and hair dries up in winter, the same happens with the rest of the body skin as well. Never skip out on body lotions every day after bath if want to extend the suppleness of your facial skin to your body as well.

I use Cocoa Body Butter from The Body Shop and have also started using Nivea Q10 Plus Skin Firming Hydration Body Lotion recently. Except for the price and fragrance, I don’t see much of a difference between the two!
Beauty Tip : Once again, use the lotion after bath on a damp skin for faster absorption. Carry some in a small bottle in your handbag and keep re-applying whenever you are in need, mostly as a hand cream.
It’s very likely that in the need of a soft skin during winter you will over load it with products and eventually suffer from extremely unsightly acne! Well, I do and therefore never fail to scrub my skin at least twice a week.

If I am wearing make-up I ensure I scrub my skin daily with Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub which is gentle enough for everyday use. I use a loofah to scrub my body skin everyday while taking bath and this goes a long way in keeping my body skin soft and free from any in-growths.
Beauty Tip : Pick a scrub with tiny granules and be very gentle while using it. You would not want your skin to rupture out at a microscopic level which will eventually show up as unevenness.
Vitamin E Oil supplements

To stay beautiful inside out make sure you drink enough water and juices to hydrate yourself. Although this should be a regular habit all year round, but in winter it’s definitely a necessity. Also, it will be wonderful if you can take oral Vitamin E supplements for a glowing skin in winter.
Beauty Tip : You may break one of the pills and mix it with your favourite face pack for an extra boost of Vitamin E (=suppleness!)
Hydrating Face pack
It’s absolutely refreshing to relax with a face pack and this is something I do most frequently during winter. A hydrating face musk or a face pack like Vitamin E Sink-in Musk from The Body Shop really helps my skin stay fresh and hydrated during the cold months.

You can use some kind of natural eye-pack to soothe your eyes as well. Cucumber, rose petals, tea-bags etc. serves as great eye packs and are natural and easily available in your kitchen shelves as well.
Beauty Tip : No matter how hydrating the product claims too be, do not keep it on for more than 15-20 minutes. It can dry up too much and cause unsightly wrinkles in the long run.
